Supernatural Love
Supernatural Results

by Pastor John Hamel

"... the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us." (Romans 5:5 Message Bible)

When you were saved, or Born Again, Almighty God became your Father.  The Bible says that God is love. (1 John 4:8)  This means that you are the love offspring of a Love God.  Because you are born of God and God is love, you are born of love.  You are now a part of a love family.

It is not possible to be a part of God's love family and not have a brand new love in your heart for all people.  As our text Scripture says, "... the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us."

Now, you may not be walking in love to the degree that the Bible says that you can and must, but that love is still there living on the inside of you.  This is why you feel badly each time you have a chance to express love towards someone and you don't follow through.

God's family is a love family and love is to be the basis for all we think, say and do.  As Believers we are actually commanded to love other Believers.  We are to treat them with deference, dignity and respect.  We are to act compassionately towards one another.

"Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another." (John 13:34 Message Bible)

As children of love we are also commanded to love our enemies.

"... I'm telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best--the sun to warm and the rain to nourish--to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that." (Matthew 5:44-46 Message Bible)

It is completely supernatural that it is even possible for someone to love their enemies but we are the offspring of a supernatural God.  Once the Believer makes the decision to cooperate with the resident love of God, the way is now prepared for supernatural results in prayer

However, it is completely up to you whether or not you will let loose the love that resides within.  It's a daily decision, particularly when it comes to loving your enemies.  Anyone can love those who treat them cool and favor them, but it takes true grit and just plain ole guts to love the nasty and unlovable.

This is what Jesus has done for us.  While we were still sinful, so unlovable and even repulsive to God, He allowed His precious Son to die for our sins, in our place.  Now, in the same way Jesus walked in love towards us while we were His enemies, we are called to walk in love towards our enemies.

Jesus' unconditional love for us is what hooked us and reeled us in.  His unconditional love demonstrated through us is what will hook the lost people of the world and reel them in.  This is what He meant when He said, "Follow Me and I'll make you fishers of men." (Matthew 4:19)

This oftentimes involves a great degree of suffering.  It's not always easy to walk in love towards the hateful, hurting people of the world.  It can be quite difficult indeed but this is exactly what it means to enter into Christ's sufferings.

"For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake." (Philippians 1:29)

We are not to suffer with Jesus through sickness, disease and poverty.  Jesus Himself never suffered with sickness or disease.  Jesus was not poor either.  Poor people don't have treasurers and Jesus had a treasurer.  His name was Judas. (John 13:29)

We are to suffer with Christ as we walk in love towards the unlovable, unreached, sinful people of the world.  Jesus suffered tremendous persecution, rejection, false accusation and injustice in order to reach humanity with God's Word and God's love.  We will suffer in all the same ways with Him as we reach out with God's Word and God's love.

There is suffering and sacrifice involved when we choose to lay down our own wills in order to reach others with the message of Jesus Christ.  God gave Jesus.  Jesus gave of Himself.  We, too, must give of ourselves and the simple fact of the matter is that sometimes this just flat out pains our flesh and our emotions.

People who say "Christianity is for wimps" are simply exposing their own ignorance of what it takes to walk in love.  Christianity is definitely not for the faint of heart.

Whenever Jesus yielded to love, or compassion, the supernatural always occurred, as it will for you.

"And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick." (Matthew 14:14)

"So Jesus had compassion on them (2 blind men), and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight ..." (Matthew 20:34)

Jesus' compassion always brought supernatural results.  When we choose to yield to compassion, we, too, will see supernatural results when we pray for ourselves and others.

Oftentimes I encounter skepticism, criticism and just plain ole fashioned rudeness and unbelief in people when they discover that I am a Pastor.  I always try to bring the conversation around to an area of need in their lives, particularly bodily healing.  I then ask them, "If I pray and Jesus heals you of your affliction, will you believe then?  Will you release your defensiveness and give God the credit when He heals you?"

Almost always the answer is "Yes, but I'll believe that when I see it."  Almost always when I pray for them, the supernatural occurs and I've hooked another fish for Jesus.  I call this "Power Evangelism".

In place of exchanging cursing for cursing, I exchange blessing for cursing and the end result is Hell is plundered and Heaven is populated.  Try it.  It works.  Love never fails. (1Corinthians 13:8)

Someone always says, "But Pastor John, what if I try that and nothing happens?"  To which I always answer, "What if you do it and something does happen?"

Trust God.  Walk in love.  You do a little thing, releasing your love and your faith.  God will do a big thing and move supernaturally.  Heaven will be populated.  Hell will be plundered.  God will get the Glory and you'll come out looking pretty good yourself!

Supernatural love always produces supernatural results.

Be supernaturally blessed as you walk in supernatural love.
