Capital Punishment
A Biblical & Constitutional Perspective

by Pastor John Hamel

“Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.” (Genesis 9:6)

Almighty God placed every human being ever birthed into the Earth here on purpose. (Psalm 139:1-24)  Whenever a human being is murdered prior to having opportunity to accept Christ as their Savior they are cut off from Eternal Life in Heaven and doomed. (Luke 13:3,5; Revelation 20:11-15)  When an individual is murdered having accepted Christ that one is now cut off from the Almighty’s perfect plan for their life. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Either way, deliberate murder is a crime against the individual whose life was interrupted.  That crime must be punished responsibly because it’s also a crime against God, His creation and all of civilization.

Although people who kill others unintentionally through negligence should be punished some other way, God has determined that cold-blooded, calculating murderers must pay with their own lives as a means of deterring all murder.  Someone said, “I don’t see Capital Punishment deterring other murderers.  They’re still out there doing their thing.”  That’s because we have yet to practice Capital Punishment precisely as God instructs. Stop lying to yourself.  When we obey God fully, we’ll see a big, big change.

Some Christians insist, “Capital Punishment is part of Moses’ Law.  Christ has redeemed us from the Law.”  What they don’t realize is that Moses’ Law began in the Book of Exodus.  Capital Punishment is first found in the Book of Genesis.  Therefore, Capital Punishment was instituted BEFORE Moses’ Law, incorporated INTO Moses’ Law and continues AFTER Moses’ Law. (Romans 13:4; 1Peter 2:14)  That settles that!

Yet, it seems that you no sooner get the problem of Moses’ Law sorted out and other Christians show up on the Penitentiary lawn on the night of a cold-blooded murderer’s execution.  They hold signs reading, “Thou shall not kill.” (Exodus 20:13)  Little do they know, the original Hebrew actually says, “You shall not take a life in an unjustifiable manner. Go to a Hebrew Lexicon on the Internet and check it out for yourself.  Cold-blooded, premeditated murder is justifiable cause for Capital Punishment in God’s eyes.

“He that smites a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.” (Exodus 21:12)

“And he that kills any man shall surely be put to death.” (Leviticus 24:17)

The Scripture never contradicts itself.  You just have to know how to study it.  Reading from the original languages will go a long, long way towards clearing up lots of unnecessary confusion amongst Christians.

“But even the Constitution is against Capital Punishment,” someone said.  Wrong again!  The 8th Amendment is against “Cruel or unusual punishment.”  The Founding Fathers didn’t find Capital Punishment to be either cruel or unusual for cold-blooded, PREMEDITATED murder.

The 5th and 14th Amendments recognize the Death Penalty but NOT without “due process of Law.”  Not even a cold-blooded, calculating murderer can be executed without Constitutional requirements being fulfilled.

Any Christian who loves America and wants it to go well with her must obey the Bible.

Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, [and any Nation] that it may go well with thee.” (Deuteronomy 19:13)

Only righteousness will exalt a nation, not sin and disobedience. (Proverbs 14:34)  God said cold-blooded, calculating murderers are to be executed.  This is one example of what Solomon referred to when he spoke of “a time to kill.” (Ecclesiastes 3:3,8)

“But isn’t warfare the same as cold-blooded murder?”  It depends.  There are two kinds of warfare in the Bible.  Aggressive Warfare to plunder, pillage and kill is cold-blooded murder and forbidden. (Psalm 68:30)

However, Defensive Warfare is different.  The Bible and the Constitution of the United States give men and women the right to defend themselves against aggressor nations and individuals.

Any Democracy that believes in peace and freedom must prepare for defensive war as a deterrent to aggressor Nations. (Numbers 10:9)  They’re out there.  They hate America.  They hate freedom.  They hate anybody who has anything that is unavailable to them.

They’re like schoolyard bullies on a national level.  If they aren’t held in check, they’ll be in your yard, killing your family and taking your stuff.  This is just a fact of life in a world that is temporarily controlled by Satan. (2Corinthians 4:4)  Jesus is coming to straighten that all out soon.

Until then we must put up the “No Trespassing” sign and stay ready to enforce it.  The saying, “If you want peace, prepare for war” couldn’t possibly be more truthful.

Simply put, it is time to read the Bible, read the Constitution, grow up and adjust when it comes to Capital Punishment and Aggressive/Defensive Warfare.

Otherwise, you’ll have aggressive, bully individuals and nations showing up intending to fill their pockets from our coffers.

It’s God’s compassion for you that won’t allow them to do so!

Phony, liberal “compassion” and false “Spiritual Enlightenment” isn’t going to stop cold-bloodied murders or aggressive warriors, either, as some deceived, religious New Agers espouse.

The Founding Fathers knew this, too.

They learned it directly from God’s Law Book, through the Ministers they looked to during the forming of this Nation.

Say, “Jesus, I choose You and Your Word.  Thanks for opening my eyes to the truth of Capital Punishment.  I see now that it’s neither cruel nor unusual.  Thanks for devising a system that looks out for the innocent.  Thanks for caring for me.” (Romans 10:13)

Capital Punishment.  Father definitely knows best!
