God Will Protect You
It’s Guaranteed!

by Pastor John Hamel

“Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons. Jesus … said unto them, Whom seek ye? They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. … As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.” (John 18:3-6)

Are you afraid? Do you secretly, or possibly even openly live in fear of what could happen to you in this big crazy world? After all, the world can be a pretty dangerous place for people who are not covered by God’s Guaranteed Plan of Protection!

Someone once said, “Well, He sure didn’t protect Jesus. Look at what happened to Him.”

Well, hold on, now! Jesus allowed Himself to die for our sins. He even said so.

"Therefore doth My Father love Me, because I lay down My life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of My Father." (John 10:17,18)

In the opening text Scripture at the beginning of this article, Judas came with a band of soldiers to illegally arrest Jesus.  A “band” of soldiers was over 600 men!

When Jesus opened His mouth to identify Himself, such power came out of His Spirit that it blasted them all, actually knocking all 600 plus individuals flat on their backs!

Can you imagine what a pileup of frightened, confused, living human bodies that was?

Jesus did this to let them know, “You’re only able to take Me because I’m allowing you to take Me.”

In Matthew's rendition of this narrative, Jesus said He could call forth 72,000 angels to deliver Him if He wanted to do so.

"Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He shall presently give Me more than twelve legions of angels?" (Matthew 26:53)

A Roman legion consisted of at least six thousand men.  Twelve legions equals 72,000.

Jesus used the Roman legion illustration to show how many angels He could call forth if He chose to do so to completely overpower and wipe out the six hundred who had come for Him.

In the Old Testament God sent one angel, the Angel of the Lord, for David's sake.  That one angel slew 185,000 human beings in one night’s time.

"Then the angel of the Lord went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and four score and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, there were all dead corpses." (Isaiah 37:36)

So it is wrong to say that God did not protect Jesus. Jesus simply would not allow His Father to protect Him from being crucified for our sins. He loves us too much

Jesus’ situation was different from ours

None of us are called to be the World’s Savior! (John 3:16)

However, God can and will protect you from evil if Jesus is your Savior.

“Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.  He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.” (Psalm 91:14,15)

A Personal Testimony of Undeniable Supernatural Protection

One busy weekend evening I was silently passing out Gospel tracts on Las Vegas Boulevard in front of a large casino.  I was accompanied by an Evangelist friend.  As we would walk down the sidewalk we would silently offer a tract to many of the hundreds and hundreds of passers-by.  Some would accept them, some would not.

Suddenly, four armed security guards, one who turned out to be the head of security, accosted us and forced us down a side alley.

Placing our backs to the wall, the head of security, obviously angry as a hornet, began shouting at us.

His anger was so explosive there was no telling what he might do.

Apparently someone had wrongly told him we were telling people it was “sinful” to go into his casino. We were not doing any such thing. We were following the Las Vegas city rules for passing out pamphlets on a public way - keep moving and do not talk to anyone.

As he continued to aggressively shout at us, "Who do you think you are to tell people to not come into my casino?" I opened my mouth to speak in our defense.

I asked him, “Do you … ?”

I did not have the opportunity to finish my question to him.

The very moment I spoke those two words, God’s power literally came out of my mouth, appearing to forcefully punch him right in the abdomen.

The angry, shouting casino security guard suddenly folded in half at the waist as if he were hinged in the middle.

His feet literally came up and off the ground as he was supernaturally thrown backwards by the power of God and into the three guards standing behind him.

This big man who towered over me literally fell silent on his backside at their feet.

It looked as if a giant angel had grabbed him by the back of his belt and forcibly snapped him backwards away from us.

It was like watching a scene from a supernatural movie.

His fellow security guards scurried to assist him, standing him back up on his feet again.

They all stood there speechless, literally stunned by what had just occurred.

Truth be told, I was as shocked and stunned as they were, possibly more so!

I remembered how this had also happened to Jesus when the six hundred Roman security guards came to illegally arrest Him.

However, I just acted like I do this kind of thing all the time.

As they stared at me in fear and amazement, the stunned head of security gave us “permission” to continue to do what we had been legally doing all along.

The four armed, now deflated security guards walked away in shock and confusion, brushing the debris and dirt off their boss and reassuring him that everything was alright.

Our backs still against the wall I turned and looked at my fellow Evangelist, asking, “Did you see that, Al?”

Al very soberly replied, “I did.”  He was as stunned as any of us.

We walked back up the alley to Las Vegas Boulevard and continued silently passing out tracts, inflated with confidence that our God had performed this miracle of protection.

You can see God’s guaranteed protection as well, if you will believe. (Luke 1:37)

Just say, “Jesus, I choose You as my Savior and Protector.” (Romans 10:13) You’ll become a member of God’s Forever Family. (John 1:12)

Once in the family, if anyone messes with you, they’re messing with your Father God and your Big Brother Jesus. They both take it personally and guarantee protection, whatever it takes

"No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of Me, saith the Lord." (Isaiah 54:17)
